The Weekly Tip

Give a healthy graduation gift!  Got a niece or nephew who recently graduated from school?  Give the gift of health!  Consider giving your favorite graduate a healthy cookbook, some simple cooking utensils and a few basic ingredients (like a collection of herbs).  He/she will be better prepared to cook nutritious, wholesome meals!

Exercise for "dessert":  The longer days of summer means more sunshine after dinner.  Skip dessert and, instead, go for a walk with the family.  Even a brisk, fifteen minute trot can burn 100 calories!  Need to have a sweet treat after dinner?  Try some fresh, juicy fruit instead of high-fat ice cream or cake.

Healthy BBQ:  Planning a barbeque or picnic on Memorial Day?  Skip the high-calorie foods–like hamburgers and potato salad–and serve up healthier choices.  Consider making your burgers with ground turkey breast, and grill plenty of fresh veggies.   Other healthy side dishes include a green salad, a pasta salad made with whole wheat pasta, and bean salad.

Boost your intensity!  Beach season is right around the corner, so use this as motivation to give your workout some extra oomph.  Add short intervals of increased intensity the next time you walk, jog, swim or bike.  Even just a few high-intensity intervals will torch calories and increase your level of fitness.
